Background

This is sort of a follow up to my previous review of the Daddy Mac.  Today I’ll be looking at the flagship of their line the Cornelius.  This cigar is comprised of Nicaraguan fillers and binders with what looks like an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper.  They are made El Titan de Bronze’s Miami factory.  The come in three sizes, a corona gorda, toro and the subject of this review a robusto.  This was the second one of these I tried.

Prelight

The first thing I notice is that the top band is the same on both of the current blends and the main way to tell the difference between the Cornelius and the Daddy Mac is the second band.  The wrapper on the cigar was golden brown in color and had a good amount of oils and tooth to it.  When I gave it a squeeze there weren’t any soft spots with a slight amount of give.  As I put my nose to the wrapper I got a light aroma of hay with barnyard coming from the foot.  After clipping and taking a cold draw on it I got a good draw with flavors of hay, sugar and salt.

Flavor

The cigar starts of with flavors of hay, wood, salt, sweetness with a hint of spice on the tongue and retrohale.  The cigar starts off at medium strength.  As I moved into the second third the flavors changed slightly to green herbs, hay, wood, cream with a slightly sweet finish.  The spice mellowed a bit as well.  The cigar started medium strength.  When I got to the final third the spice did start building a bit.  The flavors were pretty similar except the sweetness increased in strength.  The cigar never really got out of the medium range.

Construction

I had no problems with the draw throughout.  However the burn canoed pretty bad and it did require a couple of corrections.

Value

I know production costs are higher in the US, but the price is just a little high for me.

Conclusions

While this was a good cigar, there wasn’t really anything that caught my attention.  I definitely enjoyed the Daddy Mac a lot more from both the flavor and cost standpoint.  However as with any of the things I review here you’ll have to judge for yourself.  Our sponsor Small Batch has the other two sizes in this blend in stock.

  1. It sounds like something I’d enjoy (balanced flavor profile between salty and sweet), but that price tag does seem a bit steep.
