Price: $8.95 per stick at my local B&M

As you know from reading my reviews, I’m always one to be digging through my local B&M trying to find sometime new to try. With my last visit, I came upon a cigar that I have had in the past but never reviewed. Taking a long look at it, I recalled a vague memory of a friend telling me about the cigar and saying that the owner lives here in Belleville (they are friends). And as it turns out…:

Founded in 2006, by Billie King Jr., Bow Tie Cigar Company is a boutique cigar brand. Located in Belleville, IL, our primary focus is providing quality Bow Tie brand cigars, cigar packages and accessories to our customers at reasonable prices. Currently, we focus our service attention on the Metro-East Illinois, St. Louis and the surrounding St. Louis areas. However, our products are shipped to all domestic locations.

Now how cool is that? After thinking about it for awhile, I remember a conversation with my friend talking about Billie working on this cigar, but that conversation goes back a bit. Needless to say, I was eager to get to trying one.

No construction problems were detected and pre-light aromas of leather and wood were present. After the punch and light, I found the draw to be nicely balanced with just a touch of resistance and the opening flavor profile of wood, leather and very mellow spice that ventured at the roof of my mouth. As quick as the spice was noticed, however, it died out 12 minutes into smoking, leaving me with a pleasant, easy-going medium bodied smoke. Around the halfway point, I noticed stronger wood notes on the flavor profile and the overall strength of the cigar creeping up a bit. By the last inch to inch and a quarter, the leathery notes came to the forefront and helped push the overall strength of the cigar into the medium-to-full range. Overall smoking time for the Bow Tie Copper Label was 1:11.

Besides one minor burn correction in my smoking of the Bow Tie Copper Label, I had no problems.

By-The-Numbers
Prelight: 2/2
Construction: 2/2
Flavor: 4/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 9/10

To recap the Bow Tie Copper Label:

  • This is a solid medium bodied cigar. Unless I was stressed for time, I could put this cigar in any number of smoking situations (morning cigar with coffee, golf, with whiskey, etc.) and it would be enjoyable.
  • Being medium bodied and a milder, easy going flavor profile, this cigar could be enjoyed by all levels of cigar smokers.
  • My only criticism of this cigar is that I could have used a more complex flavor profile. Because it is very “middle-of-the-road” in flavor, strength and around the same price as many similar cigars, it could fall into a mix of similar cigars and get forgotten about.
  • I’ll definitely be buying more of the Bow Tie Copper Label, as I know that both my wife and I can always enjoy these. I’m also planning to reach out to Billie to tip him off about the review coming from a fellow Belleville resident.

As always, thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
