There is nothing better than coming home after a long day at work to putting your feet up, pouring yourself a drink and lighting a fine cigar…or so I’ve been told. I have a six year old and a seven month old, so that essentially never happens. Add to that incredibly busy dual music schedules between my wife and I and the probability of the above premise more or less drops to zero. However, one of the next best things to come home to after a long day at work is to unexpectedly find a package filled with cigars, especially ones that I did not order. Crux was kind enough once again to send along a package of goodies, the Guild Robusto Extra among those to try.

Striving to reach the highest of standards in a handmade product isn’t for the feint of heart. Constructed by our top artisians, the Crux Guild pays homage to the traditions of craftsmanship and excellence of decades past.

Pretty big shoes to fill I would say. Let’s see how thep Guild stacks up.

No construction issues in the Guild I utilized for this review. The pre-light aromas reminded me quite a bit of the Limitada PB5: Wood with tilled soil or earthy notes. Very faint hints of wood came from a cold draw. From the light came a balanced draw and opening notes of spice and pepper, always a welcome opening in my book. Woody notes followed from the aftertaste and expulsion of smoke. The spice and pepper mellowed eight minutes in, giving a comfortable balance between them and the woody notes. This is a straight down the middle medium body cigar. At the 56 minute mark, the strength began creeping up some. While there were residual notes of spice and pepper, the wood notes coupled with almost nutty flavor began taking over. The last 10 minutes of the cigar gave another slight increase in strength to finish out the cigar. Total smoking time was 1:13.

No problems were encountered in the smoking of the Guild.

To recap the Crux Guild Robusto Extra:

  • Crux just keeps making some great cigars and the Guild is another example of their handywork.
  • The Guild isn’t as complex as the Limitada PB5 there is plenty there to wrap your palette around. Smokers of all experience levels could enjoy this one.
  • Under $10 a cigar. Always a positive for me.
  • The Guild is right on the heels of the Limitada PB5, if you wanted to know where I rank them. More of these will be finding their way into my humidor. And if I am not mistaken, they should be making their way to retailers very soon.

Thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
