Here in So Cal we don’t need to worry about finding small cigars to combat snow and cold, but that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t mind finding a good small cigar for when I only have a short amount of time.  Andrew from Small Batch gave me a couple of his favorite small cigars to try and this is the first one of these reviews.  Today I’m looking at the Entreacto size of the 702 blend.  The 702 was a hybrid Cuban seed wrapper that Davidoff introduced on a limited edition cigar in 2009.  Earlier this year they released a regular release cigar that had this special type of hybrid wrapper.  They come in five different sizes with two if them normally only available at the Davidoff of Geneva since 1911 flagship stores in the U.S.  They range in price from $11.40-$27 depending on the size.  I have tried a couple of the other sizes in this blend but never this size.

The first thing I notice is that it has the new-ish banding from Davidoff that makes the blend info easy to figure out with a second band with the blend and size on it.  The wrapper is a reddish brown in color with some oils and tooth.  Giving it a squeeze there was a slight amount of give with no soft spots.  When I put my nose to the wrapper I noted the aroma of leather with barnyard coming from the foot.  After clipping and taking a cold draw I got a good draw with some sweetness and some “Davidoff flavor”.

It starts off with a lot of spice on the tongue and retrohale.  After a couple more puffs the flavor of leather, earth and copper with hints of sweet cream and cinnamon thrown in.  The cigar starts off at upper end of medium strength.  As I moved into the second third the spice was still very present with flavors of leather, copper, earth, coffee and that mushroomy “Davidoff flavor”.  The cigar built in strength to medium full by the end of the second third.  Once I got into the final third the strength built to the bottom end of full.  The flavors were of cinnamon, leather, copper, earth and sweetness.  The spice was still there as well.

As you’d expect from Davidoff the construction was just great.

Yeah, almost $12 for such a small cigar is a little much.  I could however see myself buying one on occasion.

This was a very flavorful and enjoyable cigar.  I can recommend it for those of you who would like a flavorful, nearly full strength cigar that doesn’t take a lot of time to enjoy.  If you’d like to give this cigar or any of the other sizes a try head over to our sponsor and try them out.
