Cigar Review: Eddie Ortega Wild Bunch Fast Eddie

EO WB Fast EddieOriginally published at Tiki Bar Online

Lancero, 6.5″ x 38 ring gauge / $7.95, MSRP

Today I’ll be reviewing the next release in the Wild Bunch series, the Fast Eddie. This one celebrates the man himself. I know Eddie really likes lancero sized cigars so it didn’t surprise me that his cigar is this size. The cigar is comprised of Nicaraguan fillers and binders with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. I would like to again thank Eddie for the sample I got to smoke for this review.

The wrapper on this cigar was a nice medium dark brown, that got lighter towards the bottom of the cigar. There were only some fine veins to it and it had a good amount of oils to the wrapper as well. There was some give when I gave it a squeeze but there were no soft spots. When I put my nose to the wrapper I got the aroma of leather with barnyard coming from the foot. After I clipped it and took a cold draw on it I got the taste of Tootsie Roll and dry cinnamon.

As soon as I lit it up I got a fairly intense wasabi like burn on the retrohale with a red pepper spice on the tongue. After a few puffs I got tastes of chocolate, coffee and cinnamon with a sweet finish. I also got a slightly metallic taste on the tip of the tongue. The cigar was medium-full to start. As I got to the end of this third the spice had died down. The draw was great and the burn was slightly off.

The second third saw tastes of leather, cream, and cinnamon come through. The spice was still present on the back of the throat a bit. The draw continued to be great and the burn evened out. The ash was a bit flaky but that is something that I’ve commonly seen on lancero sized cigars.

The spice started to build back up as I moved into the final third as well I started to get a slight nicotine hit from it as well. The flavors changed a bit to chocolate and molasses with a creamy finish.

Overall this was a very enjoyable cigar. I will be picking a few more up. I think most people, except those sensitive to nicotine, will be able to enjoy it. If you like Eddie’s stuff I think this is a rare chance to get to taste his preference in a blend and would recommend picking this cigar up.
