Background

The other day I was looking through my humidors and trying to find something to review when I came across the box of these that I purchased at the Tweetup.  I know I had intended to review one before now, but it had slipped my mind.  As some of you are aware Noel Rojas created a Tweetup exclusive cigar for us, for last year’s tweetup.  Dave came up with the blend and the name was a blinding flash of brilliance on my part, if I do say so myself (that’s sarcasm if you couldn’t tell).  You can check out Dave’s preview of it here.  This was the third one of these I smoked.

Prelight

First off I want to apologize for the cruddy pic.  I didn’t realize how much the sun washed it out so bad until I sat down to write the review.  You can get a better idea from Dave’s pics.  The wrapper on this sample was a very nice dark chocolate brown with lots of tooth to it.  There were also a good amount of oils in spite of there being no cellophane on the cigar.  The cigar was a bit rustic and there were some bumps and veins showing.  I would have liked there to be a second band or some other identification since the band is the normal Guayacan band.  When I put the wrapper to my nose I could detect the aroma of leather with barnyard aroma coming from the foot.  After clipping it and taking a cold draw on it I got notes of chocolate with a slightly tight draw.

Flavor

As you might expect from a cigar with a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper the cigar starts off with good amounts of chocolate and spice.  After a few puffs I started to get some cedar and earth thrown in.  The cigar starts off at the upper end of medium strength.  The flavors and strength didn’t really change as I moved into the second third.  Once I got into the final third the flavors intensified and changed slightly to chocolate, cream, leather, and coffee.  The spice did start to intensify and it moved to the bottom end of full strength.

Construction

The draw was too tight for my liking all the way through the first two thirds of the cigar.  Using the bleeder tool on my MTX did open it up a bit but not where I’d like.  The burn was also a little wavy but nothing too bad.

Value

A very limited run cigar for $9 is a great value in my opinion.

Conclusions

It was very cool for Noel to do this cigar for us.  I think this sample was hampered by the tight draw.  If the draw was better the flavors would have been more enjoyable throughout.  I’m looking forward to seeing how these cigars.  I have no idea if Burns has any left but you could contact them and see.

Nice Review, glad you actually found time to post something on here, now Dave doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting LOL. I remember reading about this cigar from Dave, I may need to come to the next Tweet up if you guys are going to be having your own cigars for the event.

I really enjoyed this cigar, smoked one last month. Although I’m pretty sure these are a lancero, mine measured 7 inches and 40ish ring.

I smoked one of these a few months ago and had the worst tunneling issues, was given some robusto size as a replacement and really enjoyed them.
