The cigar reviewed this month came courtesy of my wife Jackie. As mentioned in past reviews, our favorite local B&M to visit is the Hill Cigar Company here in the St. Louis area. While not recently active, the Hill Cigar Company has a women’s cigar group that has events specifically catered to local female cigar smokers. Their most recent event brought a representative from H. Upmann Cigars to show off their Legacy line. Jackie was kind enough to bring home one for me to try.

I found a hint of woody, cedar notes pre-light but not much else. No construction problems were found either. Once again going with a punch and wooden match, my first draw was met with a full bodied, strong peppery flavor. Those woody, cedar notes were subtlety present in the flavor palette but they were definitely taking a backseat to the pepper, although I did find they became much more prevalent after the halfway point of the cigar. It took about fifteen minutes into the cigar before the pepper flavors backed down, but they were definitely still in the forefront of noticeable flavors. The last quarter of the cigar mellowed in strength; the peppery, woody flavors died down and was replaced with something that reminded me of allspice. Total smoking time was 1:05.

IMG_0870If you can tell from the pictures, the ash held well to the end of the cigar. As someone who seems to be a magnet to falling ash, this minor point was welcome in my smoking world. No burn problems were found at any time smoking this cigar.

IMG_0871To recap the H. Upmann Legacy:

  • A wonderful full-bodied cigar with prominent flavors of pepper and wood. If you’re looking for a smaller vitola cigar that packs a bit of a punch, here you are.
  • The price point on this cigar ($6.00 range or a bit less) makes this a great cigar for what I would consider a fair price.

As always, thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
