Back in the spring, I reviewed the Quesada Keg and thoroughly enjoyed it. While not everyone may enjoy a cigar that is designed to be smoked with a beer, I certainly don’t mind. Fast forward to a week or so ago and I spot the newly released Quesada Oktoberfest 2016. It goes without saying but it didn’t take me long at all to place an order for a 10 count box because I knew with little doubt that these were going to be great. But how great is great you might ask…read on to find out.

No construction issues found with my review Quesada Oktoberfest 2016. In some ways, the Kugel vitola reminded me of the Punch Champion, a favorite of mine from the Punch family. The nose gave me aromas of cedar and faint mocha. The cold draw, once cut, gave me notes of oats and mild spice. After a light with some really sh*tty matches (I really need to invest in a new lighter), the cigar opened with a balance draw and starting flavor notes of mild spice, oats and black coffee, all of which I was pleased with right from the start. The flavors of the cigar stayed along those lines until 15 minutes in, where I found stronger coffee coming to the forefront of the palette. Wood/cedar tones, accompanied with something sweet, were introduced to the profile at the 37 minute mark. By the last inch to inch and a half, the Quesada’s strength, what I would characterize initially as medium-to-full bodied at the start, had crossed over into full bodied territory while retaining a smooth and easy to smoke demeanor. Total smoking time was 1:15.

No problems or issues minus a minor burn correction were encountered while smoking the Quesada Oktoberfest 2016. This cigar is meant to be paired with a Märzen-style (typically medium to full body German) beer but I don’t any beer that remotely matches that in my fridge. When I am able to test the pairing of the cigar with a Märzen-style beer, I will post my results in the comments. All in all, this cigar turned out to be everything I expected to be.

To recap the Quesada Oktoberfest 2016:

  • Fantastic cigar. Great flavor profile. Everything I would expect from the yearly offerings from Quesada.
  • I think newer cigar smokers and/or those who prefer milder smokes would be fine with this cigar.
  • Well under $10 per stick. Always appreciated to me and my bank account.
  • As I finish writing this, I’m heading downstairs to smoke one of my few remaining Oktoberfests. More of these are incoming to my humidor here very soon.

Thank you very much for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
