Background

Today is the fourth installment of the series of new Regius cigars.  The first three can be found here, here and here.  Like the others there isn’t much info out there on them.  This is the first one of these I’ve smoked.

Prelight

The wrapper is a light caramel in color with some tooth and a slight amount of oils.  The bottom band makes it pretty clear the what kind of tobacco the wrapper leaf is.  When I gave it a squeeze it was fairly firm and didn’t have any soft spots.  Putting my nose to the wrapper I detect a light aroma of hay with barnyard coming from the foot.  After clipping it and taking a cold draw I got an ok draw with some sugar and wood.

Flavor

Surprisingly the cigar starts off with a wasabi like burn on the retrohale.  After a few more puffs I start to note some sweet hay, wood, cinnamon and salt flavors on the tongue.  The cigar stays at the bottom end of medium after the spice mellowed out a lot.  Once I got into the second third the flavors were of wood, hay and a hint of sweetness.  The cigar stayed towards the bottom end of medium as well.  The final third didn’t really see much change in flavor or strength.

Construction

The draw opened up quite nicely after I lit it up.  The burn was a little uneven to start off with but it straightened out without any need for correction.

Value

As with the others the $7 for the robusto is a good value.

Conclusions

This was the most uninteresting of the ones I’ve tried so far.  However it might work for those not looking for a lot of strength.  If you want to try any of these new blends head over to SmallBatchCigar.com and pick your favorite size.
