Background

Today I’ll be looking at a second blend in the new releases from Regius.  The first review can be found here.  Like that one there isn’t any info on it out there other than the foot band telling what type of wrapper it is.  It comes in the same 16 sizes that the other ones do.  This was my first experience with this cigar.

Prelight

The different color foot band with the words ‘San Andres” clearly written on it make it easy to differentiate from the other new blends.  The wrapper was a medium-dark brown in color with a slight greyish cast and some hints of gold to it as well.  It exhibited a good amount of tooth and some oils as well.  Giving it a squeeze, it was fairly firm without any soft spots.  Even pulling it out of the cellophane I was able to get a good aroma of barnyard from the wrapper with a less intense of the same coming from the foot.  After taking a cold draw on it I got an ok draw with some hints of wood.

Flavor

It starts off with lots of spice on the tongue and retrohale.  After a few puffs I could start to taste some chocolate and earth on the tongue.  After a few more puffs I also noted some coffee and sugar flavors as well.  The cigar starts off at the upper end of medium strength.  The second third saw the spice tone down without going completely away.  I noted flavor of earth, chocolate and coffee during this third.  The cigar stayed at the upper end of medium strength during this third as well.  Once I got into the final third almost all of the sweet flavors I noted in the previous two thirds were gone.  I was getting more earth and coffee flavors with a hint of saltiness out of it.  The spice did start to come back and it did move to the bottom end of full strength.

Construction

The burn started off a little ragged but it eventually evened out and didn’t need any correction.  The draw was also pretty good throughout.

Value

I like to see cigars at this price point.

Conclusions

It was a good cigar.  However towards the end it kind of died out in the flavor area to me.  I would definitely give it another try .  If you want to give these new blends a try, for the moment they are only available at SmallBatchCigar.com.
