Sabrosos, or tasty in Spanish is definitely a worthy description of the cigar I am going to review next. Anytime I get an email from Rodrigo Cigars, I take a moment to give it a thorough read, as there is usually something great he is offering to his client base. And like many cigars that have caught my eye, the wrapper of the Sabrosos did me in. I’m always a sucker for a rich maduro wrapper. So let’s get to it then…

No construction for the Sabrosos I chose for review. Aromas of cedar-like wood and something sweet that I couldn’t quite put my finger were the most prominent from removing the cigar from the five pack. A punch and cold draw have me faint hints of dried fruit. The light gave me a nicely balanced draw with a ton of smoke on the exhale. The initial flavor notes of the Sabrosos gave me mild spice with a touch of cedar. It should be noted that the spice I got from the Sabrosos was definitely a little different than what you would find in Nicaraguan-based cigars. This was milder and seemed to bloom around the palette than be more pointed, if that makes any sense. Rodrigo lists the strength at full bodied; I would put it at medium-to-full bodied to start and getting very close to full bodied by the end. The spice listed hung on the palette for quite awhile, well into the midway point of the cigar, where the inclusion of a leathery note crept in. By the last third, the cedar and leather took the forefront of flavors and began growing in strength towards the end of the cigar. Total smoking time on the Sabrosos was 1:31.

Besides a burn correction, I encountered no problems with the Sabrosos. I look forward to the next time I’ll be smoking a Sabrosos, which is actually going to be about an hour from time of writing this article.

To recap the Sabrosos by Rodrigo Cigars:

  • Another great cigar brought to all of us by Rodrigo Cigars, easily on par with the La Fortaleza I checked out a few months ago.
  • Great balance of strength and flavors. I think both new and veteran cigar smokers can appreciate this. I gave my wife one a week or so ago and she enjoyed it.
  • The Sabrosos comes in at around $10 per stick, which is about where I would put it at. A good value in my opinion.
  • Whenever these are available again (currently sold out), I could easily see myself adding another five pack to my humidor. I know my wife wouldn’t mind.

Thank you very much for reading. Have a enjoyable and safe Fourth of July holiday for those celebrating.
