This has been a very busy time of year for us. Typically, when one of us is out with work/school/music obligations, the other is home with the kids. Last month, I was out pretty much every weekend and then some for music gigs. What this can all mean is that it’s incredibly difficult to visit our favorite hangouts, like the The Hill Cigar Co. here in St. Louis. Thankfully, that difficulty was overcome this past weekend and I was able to get away to do some cigar shopping for new sticks to try. One of the cigars that caught my eye was today’s review. Seeing the bright green band of the Toraño Vault P-044, I really couldn’t help but pick one up just to see what this was. And given the price, I felt I had to pick up a couple just to check them out.

No construction issues on the Toraño Vault P-044 I chose for review (I bought two). The nose gave me aromas of faint wood and tilled soil while the cold draw from a punch gave me the very faint tastes of berries. My draws for the vast majority of the cigar seemed to take forever to get the cigar going. Maybe I needed to cut this one or I was unlucky; I’m unsure. Nothing I really did helped. The opening flavor notes from the cigar gave me light wood, hints of sweetness with a medium bodied strength. 18 minutes into the cigar, I began to notice the introduction of spice into the flavor profile. And 12 minutes after, a dull pepper added into the mix. There the flavors more or less stayed as they are until the last inch, where I got heavier wood and increased spice to finish out the smoking of the cigar which was definitely into full bodied territory. Total smoking time on the Toraño Vault P-044 was 1:43.

Besides the draw issues listed above and a minor burn correction, I had no other issues with the cigar.

To recap the Toraño Vault P-044:

  • Well, the band is certainly noticeable. And there are other variants as well with similarly colored bands. David covered both this one and the TM-027 (Purple). I like the flavor profile of it, despite it being not overly complex.
  • Cigar smokers who favor milder smokes shouldn’t be scared away by this one.
  • And under $6 for this cigar is a fine deal to be had.
  • Definitely not my favorite Toraño, but enjoyable enough. It’s certainly not a bad deal but I can’t see myself buying this one in the future.

Thank you very much for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
