Background

A couple weeks ago I reviewed the other blend in this limited edition here.  Mark VanSledright asked in the comments if I would be reviewing the other blend.  So I picked up one of the Churchill gordo cigars and here is the review.  As I mentioned before these cigars are a collaboration between TV personality Charlie Moore and Quesada cigars.  This cigar is comprised of  an Ecuador Connecticut shade wrapper, Dominican binder and fillers of Connecticut Broadleaf, Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos.  They come packed in 20 count boxes just like the other size.  This was the first one of these I smoked.

Prelight

As expected this cigar has the same boring band of the other blend.  However there isn’t any confusion as the wrapper leaves are totally different colors.  This one is a nice even golden brown in color.  There was some oils to it.  It was was fairly smooth with no tooth and not many veins to it.  With Connecticut shade cigars I normally see the binder and filler tobaccos to be a shade or two or even more darker than the wrapper, not on this cigar though.  The binder and filler was almost the same golden brown throughout.  When I gave it a squeeze there was a slight amount of give without any soft spots.  I noted the aroma of hay from the wrapper with light barnyard coming from the foot.  After clipping and taking a cold draw on it I tasted some hay notes with a slightly tight draw.

Flavor

The cigar starts off with a light amount of spice with some cream, cedar and cinnamon flavors as well.  After a few puffs I started to get the bitterness that I get from a lot of CT shade wrapped cigars.  This was definitely a mild cigar to start off with.  Towards the end of the first third the spice pretty much dropped off and the flavors dulled to tobacco and the slight bitterness.  The second third wasn’t much different than the end of the first third.  There just wasn’t much flavor other than light tobacco.  As I got into the final third I started to get a sweetness on the finish as well as the spice started to just come back.  The cigar definitely was mild all the way through.

Construction

The draw was a bit tighter than I like but not too bad.  The draw was slightly wavy but never needed any correction.

Value

The price on this is getting to be where I expect a little more out of the cigar, especially a limited edition.

Conclusions

For me there just wasn’t much there in this cigar.  It was pretty much one flavor throughout and what there was wasn’t very strong.  By the end of this big cigar I was kinda bored with it.  I will say there wasn’t any bad flavors, just not a lot of flavor at all.

this cigar seems to have been a disappointment in term of it’s flavour expression. i’d hesitate to smoke it based on the review and price.

I wonder if Moore thinks it’s outstanding?
