CAO FASA Sol

Cigar Review: CAO FASA Sol

One of CAO Cigars’ newest labels, FASA Sol was meant to pay homage to the Honduran tobacco, a rich part of the brand’s heritage. FASA Sol uses an Honduran Olancho San Agustin wrapper over a Cameroon binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic (Piloto Cubano) and Nicaragua (Esteli, Jalapa, and Condega regions are all represented). The other cigar in the FASA release is Noche and uses a Connecticut Broadleaf Oscuro wrapper…I’ll keep an eye out for it.

I love the way this cigar looks…reddish brown and very oily. The cold draw was woody with a touch of baking spice. The online tasting notes said it should pair well with “Kentucky Bourbon”…although I would argue that that applies to any cigar…I poured some Evan Williams Bottled in Bond onto a couple ice cubes.

Once lit, the FASA Sol had notes of cedar, earth, coffee bean, and pepper spice. The spice came through especially strong on the nose. I found this blend to be good, while not really knocking me out with its flavor or presence. I would smoke it again, but can’t say that I would hunt for it.
