Seems like I visited the Diesel Whiskey Row Founder’s Collection not long ago…because I did! This one is different, though. The Mizunara uses Nicaraguan fillers, a Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper, and a Connecticut Broadleaf binder that was aged in Japanese Mizunara oak barrels that Rabbit Hole used to age their Founder’s Collection Whiskey.
The wrapper on this was defiantly earthy with notes of anise and espresso bean. The foot of the stick had some more complexity, bringing in unsweetened cocoa powder and a mild pepper aroma. It was only after I clipped the head and took a cold draw that I got the essence of whiskey…oak and vanilla.
Once fired up, the Founder’s Collection Mizunara gave up a wonderful mix of earth and dark chocolate, espresso beans and hints of bourbon…along with a peppery punch in the nose when I retrohaled. This was a very nice addition to the Whiskey Row lineup and one that I would love for them to repeat.
