I’m always on the lookout for a new value bundle to be had. A big B&M like CI is great for finding deals on cigars often forgotten among a vast cigar market. Perusing the clearance section of that website awhile back brought me face to face with today’s review. My first purchase of this bundle came around six weeks ago and had no expectations of it. After going through the five in that bundle, I decided they were worthy for a second purchase which is where we are at today. Digging around for information on the cigar, I was unable to find anything discernable as to when this cigar was released.

No construction issues on the cigar chosen for review among the recent bundle purchase. This was number seven or eight out of the fifteen (three bundles) purchased. Both the cold draw and the nose on the cigar contained only faint hints of wood. Opting for my usual V cut from the guillotine, I was met with a nicely balanced draw after the light and a straight-down-the-middle medium bodied strength to start the smoking experience. The opening flavors at the start of the cigar included the already mentioned wood, coupled with mild pepper around the middle of the palette as well as more pepper and hints of coffee on the aftertaste. From there, the cigar held firm on strength and the flavor profile until the 45 minute mark where the overall strength began pushing into the medium-to-full range. The last seven minutes of the cigar was heavy woody notes coupled with coffee aftertastes. The pepper by this point was gone from the palette. Total smoking time on the Gurkha Governor’s Private Blend clocked in at 0:52.

Besides a burn correction and relight at the 26 minute mark, the cigar smoked without issue.

By-The-Numbers
Pre-light: 2/2
Construction: 2/2
Flavor: 3.75/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 8.75/10

To recap the Gurkha Governor’s Private Blend:

  • I liked it. It’s not overly complex but the flavor profile has enough for most cigar smokers to keep it interesting.
  • Despite the Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, the strength of the cigar is not going to scare off the majority of smokers.
  • $4.00 per cigar is a fantastic deal for these cigars.
  • If I can find this deal a third time, I’ll definitely buy these again.

Thank you so much for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
