Le Bijou 1922 100 Años

Cigar Review: My Father Le Bijou 1922 100 Años

Cigar makers love an anniversary more than just about anything else. If there’s a way to commemorate a particular year or number of years, they will. Padron has basically made that the basis of most of their lines. In 1921 I smoked a My Father Le Bijou 1922 and knew right then and there that a 100th anniversary would appear in the following year. To be fair, no one was surprised.

The Le Bijou 1922 100 Años is a tweaked version of the original Nicaraguan puro blend that Don Pepin Garcia created to celebrate his father, who was born in the eponymous year. I am enjoying the box pressed Corona Extra with some Wheel Horse Bourbon…which I’ll explore in more depth soon.

The wrapper leaf was dark and oily with a powerfully earthy aroma, along with touches of leather. When lit, I was greeted by notes of dark roast coffee beans and earth, the faintest chocolate sweetness, and a nice pepper spice burn, especially on the nose. As I burned along it, those flavors ebbed and ascended in a very pleasant way. Excellent blend that I will buy again fairly frequently.
