Plasencia debuted the Alma Fuerte in 2017 and it was an immediate hit with me. I love it so much that I gave it a 9.5/10 in my old scored reviewing methodology and went on to smoke quite a few of them over the years. I honestly don’t know exactly when the Colorado Claro (green label) of the Alma Fuerte came out, but I did start seeing it on store shelves a few years ago. I do believe I’ve tried it, but not in a review setting and not recently, so I decided to pick one up and write down a few thoughts about it.
The Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro looked impressive…soft box-press, attractive wrapper, medium-brown wrapper leaf color with some oils and touches of red under certain lighting. And really, it should look impressive for the price tag of over $20. The wrapper had a sweet milk chocolate aroma to it, with other floral and baking spice notes, while the foot was smelled like fresh sawdust shavings on damp earth. The cold draw tasted very strongly of raw wood.
The wood aspects were not quite as prevalent after I lit the Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro. It mostly had notes of earth, black and red pepper, and leather, with some cedar accents and more pepper spice on the retrohale. I would say the body was a little less full than the original (black label) Alma Fuerte, but I would not call this anything less than full-bodied, nonetheless. Even with a different wrapper leaf (and probably tweaked blend), this cigar still has a “strong soul.”
In the end, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the original, but the Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro was truly an excellent cigar that I would buy again.
