How this review came about is a bit of a funny story. The samples of these cigars arrived a few months ago and I had every intention of getting a review of them finished up. Life happens as it often does, and after re-arranging my humidor a bit, I ended up miscounting the number of these I had and finished them out without a review. When I realized the mistake, I started searching for them to buy another sample of. Thankfully, our friends at Small Batch Cigar had them in stock.

No construction issues found within this new group of cigars I bought. I think this is the third cigar from this batch of eight (one I smoked, one I sent to a friend of mine). Lots of dried fruit and earth on the pre-light aroma while the cold draw was mild black coffee and wood. The draw was open with an easy pull with a large V cut from the guillotine. The start to this cigar brought a slightly stronger medium to full strength with opening notes of earth, black coffee and wood with a bit of a peppery aftertaste. Touches of dark chocolate found its way into the palette seven minutes into the start of the cigar. 10 minutes past that, I really felt that the cigar pushed right into full bodied territory. Another eight minutes after that, I found less pepper on the palette but an inclusion of leather into the overall flavor profile. The last 18 minutes of the cigar was full-bore full body strength all over the palette with stronger hits of coffee and wood to finish the cigar out. The total smoking time on the Undercrown Corona Pequeña Maduro clocked in at 00:41.

The cigar didn’t give me a single issue in terms of its smoking. I will say that this is a pretty strong cigar and I felt this one the next day. With that being said, I know I didn’t eat much of a dinner prior to this cigar, so be advised.

By-The-Numbers
Pre-light: 2/2
Construction: 2/2
Flavor: 4.25/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 9.25/10

To recap the Undercrown Corona Pequeña Maduro:

  • Strong with lots of complementary flavors in a small package.
  • Eat something before you smoke this. This cigar will not appeal to everyone.
  • It was around $8.00 per cigar for the eight pack, so if you are fan of the strength and size, definitely buy a box of these to save on the per-cigar cost.
  • I’d like to have a few of these floating around the humidor for when I need a proverbial punch to the face, so these will be bought again. And expect a review of the Connecticut wrapper cousin of the same size to coming sometime this summer.

Thank you all for reading and have a wonderful weekend.
