Background

A couple years ago Ammar brought out two special sizes with a slightly tweaked blend of two of the regular blends from Graycliff.  Today’s review is on the slightly tweaked Crystal blend called the White Night.  I don’t really know what the tweak to the blend is but the normal one has tobaccos from Brazil, Honduras, and Nicaragua with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.  The two sizes are almost the same with one having the rounded head of the review cigar, with the other one having a tapered head similar to their Pirate size.  I don’t know how many of these they made for them this, but I’m guessing there are a few.  This was the first one from this run that I have tried.

Prelight

There is the familiar Crystal top band, but the send band denotes that it is a special blend.  The reddish brown wrapper had a lots of oils to it.  It also wasn’t as lumpy as I’ve been used to on other Graycliff cigars.  Giving it a squeeze there was some give but no soft spots.  Putting my nose to the wrapper I got a barnyard aroma with the same coming from the foot.  After clipping it and taking a cold draw I got a good draw with wood and sweet flavors.

Flavor

It starts off with lots of spice on the tongue and retrohale.  After a few puffs I started to get some more than spice coming though. I tasted wood, leather, and copper with a sweet finish.  It starts off medium strength.  As I moved into the second third the spice mellowed out a lot, but not completely.  The flavors were pretty similar to the first third.  The strength stayed the same.  The final third saw the spice come back, but not as intense as the first third.  The flavors did stay the same though.  It pretty much stayed medium strength throughout.

Construction

The draw and burn was pretty much perfect throughout.  Having an almost perfect burn line isn’t something I used to experience from Graycliff.

Value

While it definitely is a more expensive cigar, it being a low production and tweaked blend from this company helps make up for some of that to me.

Conclusions

Yeah I know it isn’t the most complex cigar, but I enjoyed it.  Having the perfect construction helped this out a lot.  It isn’t on the website yet, but you can check out SmallBatchCigar.com or sign up for new product announcements if you’re interested.
