Background

I was recently looking around the humidor at Maxamar’s to see if there was anything I hadn’t tried and came across this.  I picked one up and smoked it that day and since I enjoyed it I picked another one up for review.  Dave did a review of this recently and covers the blend info here.

Prelight

The top main band is pretty familiar now as it is the same on the other 3 blends.  The bottom band lets you know what the blend is.  I agree with Dave that a little more variety might be a good thing to think about.  The wrapper was a golden brown in color with a good amount of oils and some tooth.  When I gave it a squeeze there was some give and there were no soft spots.  Putting my nose to the wrapper I got some hay and leather with nuts and wood coming from the foot.  Clipping it and taking a cold draw on it I got a slight sweetness with a good draw.

Flavor

It starts off with a good amount of spice on the tongue and retrohale.  After a few more puffs I noted some flavors of leather, earth and coffee.  At the beginning it started off at the upper end of medium strength.  The spice died down a bit as I got into the second third.  The flavors were pretty similar to the first third; leather, wood, and earth with a sweet finish.  The strength stay the same through the second third.  The spice built a bit as I got into the final third.  The final third saw flavors pretty much the same as the second third.  The strength built a bit and I got a slight nicotine hit from it.

Construction

I had no problems with the draw or burn throughout.

Value

It’s good to see another under $10 offering from them.

Conclusions

While it isn’t the most complex cigar, it was definitely still enjoyable.  It might be a little to strong for a few people out there but not most.  It is definitely something I’d smoke again.  If you want to give this or any other C&A cigar a try head on over to our sponsor SmallBatchCigar.com.
