Price: $8.95 at my local Tinder Box

My wife and I have been enjoying a few more cigars than normal lately. While the extra time together is great, that also means that the inventory of cigars goes much faster. While awaiting the arrival of some everyday smokes, I realized I needed something to review. Having just visited my closest B&M just a week prior, I decided to hit up another shop about 10–15 minutes away to see if I could find anything I wasn’t familiar with. Sure enough, it didn’t take me long to find Table 36’s The Peacemaker. Not a brand I am familiar with and then seeing this cigar with a “ exploded shaggy foot”, I knew I had to give it a shot.

I found no construction or wrapper issues prelight. The prelight notes that I detected reminded me in ways of a light molasses. Taking my first few draws after punch and light, I was hit with strong woody flavors. Unfortunately, I think that the shaggy foot was preventing me from getting a decent draw because I felt I was working on a good draw until I burned that foot down (five or so minutes). After the shaggy foot was burned down, I got a more even draw. This cigar smokes right at medium body and doesn’t flucuate in strength. The wood flavors stay predominant until the midpoint of the cigar but it didn’t improve. While I got a touch of spice, I also received a bitterness to the flavor that didn’t go away. By the time I had about a quarter left of the cigar, I had to put it down. That bitterness was just getting too overpowering.

Besides the draw issues mentioned above, I also noticed that the burn would go uneven for little while then even itself out. It happened twice while smoking. I’m beginning to think that for this particular cigar, letting it age a few months or longer may help the bitterness I encountered. Perhaps I got a lemon? I would also consider cutting down the shaggy foot a bit to help get the inital burn started. When I purchased this, I bought two. I think I will leave The Peacemaker in there until maybe the end of the summer and try this one again as my experience was not positive.

By-The-Numbers
Prelight: 2/2
Construction: 1.5/2
Flavor: 2.5/5
Value: 0.5/1
Total: 6.5/10

To recap The Peacemaker:

  • An interestingly-built cigar that will catch the eye of anyone wanting to try something new.
  • While it is medium bodied, the flavor profile was heavy wood with a bitterness later on that killed the experience. An attempt at aging the cigar and trying it in a few months may prove to help it.
  • At right under $9.00 per stick in IL, I would be looking online to find a better deal for these. Even at a few dollars less, I’m not so sure I would purchase this one. Again, much rides on if the aging process helps the flavor profile.

As always, thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.

Nice review. Looking at the picture I would say the foot is more than a little unfinished, looks like dreadlocks. Doesn’t sound like something I should run out and try to find though. Look forward to hearing how it ages.

Shaggy foot cigars are like Parrots… cool to look at but a pain in the ass to actually deal with. To me it is a waste of money, I have never had the Shaggy part of a cigar that I enjoyed and its just a big pile of steamer to ash… so while I believe I have had the Table 36 line before I will not be looking for the Peacemaker.

Hmm, like the name & look, but will probably pass if I ever find it. Thanks for the review.

[…] Remember this one? I do. This one left an impression with me, and not a good one. At the end of my review on it, I said that I would let this one age a few months and re-approach it. In October, I did just that. This time around, I trimmed at least an inch off the shaggy foot before lighting the cigar. This alone helped the burn and bitterness immensely as I didn’t have to wade through, for a lack of a better word, ‘tall grass’, to get to the cigar. While I still found heavy wood flavors prominent through the majority of the cigar, I did notice a bit of sweet flavors and mild pepper right after burning through the cut down shag. While I would bump this cigar up a full point to a 7.5 out of 10, I can’t say I would recommend this as a regular buy. […]
