If you’ve read any of my reviews over time, you’ll know that I am always on the lookout for a great value cigar. Usually, it’s me perusing through the clearance and sales sections of various large-scale online cigar retailers to find potential hidden gems. This next cigar however found me by way of ‘police escort’. Kevin, a friend and local police officer, is a relatively new Brother of the Leaf. And since he’s new, I’ve been sharing with him cigars and/or cigar suggestions to check out. One day, he swing by the office to pick up a few to try and in exchange, gave me a couple of un-banded Churchills he came upon while on vacation in Florida. After smoking the two that Kevin gave me and being blown away by them, I asked Kevin for the name of the shop where he purchased them.

Tom Green owns and operates Sticks Cigar Company in Ft. Myers, Florida. His shop specializes in value bundles and smaller boutique blends. Tom told me that this particular has been a big hit with his clients. Needless to say, after the first two, I was more than happy to get ahold of more to give them a proper review.

I ordered two bundles from Sticks and this particular cigar is probably in the late teens or early twenties (I have given out half a dozen to various friends). No construction issues on the cigar chosen for review (or any of the others so far). The pre-light aromas consisted of wood…and only wood. The cold draw gave me a bit more depth of flavor with a combination of wood, leafy greens, and mild spice. Once the cigar was properly lit, I was greeted with an open draw and starting notes of wood, bakers spices and very mild coffee. In terms of strength, I would characterize this as medium bodied smoke, although my wife considers it stronger than that. The spice mellows about nine minutes in and then after, the cigar more or less settles in for a smooth ride. The last inch of the cigar you should notice everything picking up in strength rather quickly, especially the wood and coffee notes. The total smoking time on the cigar was 1:29.

Besides a minor burn correction near the beginning of the cigar, I encountered no problems with the smoking of this Dominican Churchill bundled for the Sticks Cigar Company.

To recap the Sticks Cigar Company Dominican Churchill:

  • The first cigar of these I smoked from Kevin, my first reaction was “WTF!?”. Excellent cigar with a nice balance of flavors.
  • I think this cigar has just enough for everyone, newbie and veteran, to be considered for everyone.
  • Fantastic value at under $5 a stick.
  • This is my new favorite value smoke and will be buying more when supplies run low. And should you wish to order these cigars after reading this review, I am happy to report that Tom will ship his cigars to you via Priority Mail when you order over the phone.

A huge thanks to Kevin for the gift of the first two cigars and for putting me in touch with Tom Green of Sticks Cigar Company. Thank you to Tom for taking a few minutes of time to chat with me about the cigar. He already knows I’ll be buying more.

Last but not least, keep an eye out sometime this weekend as I’ll have a separate post and signup regarding the NFL Pick’em League. It’s been a busier week than anticipated.

Thank you very much for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
