While I don’t smoke cigars from Don Pepin Garcia or My Father very often, I can say that I have never had one I didn’t enjoy. I was looking through my list of past reviews to further the above statement, realizing that I haven’t done a review of either in the time I have been writing for Leaf Enthusiast. Seeing this next cigar listed when I was doing a bit of online shopping recently, I knew I had to give it a shot. Made for the annual meeting of the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) in March, My Father Cigars, Inc. introduced this cigar via the Don Pepin Garcia line.

No construction issues found on the cigar chosen for review. Two were purchased online and this cigar was the second one smoked. The pre-light aromas on the cigar brought about notes of leather and earth while the cold draw gave similar earthy notes coupled with dried fruit. The start of the cigar brought upon me an open draw with starting flavor notes of leather, the earthy notes mentioned before and lighter roast coffee. I would characterize the strength on the cigar as a low end medium to full bodied but very easy to smoke. While I enjoy the rich flavors on this cigar, I don’t think its enough to scare everyone away. 15 minutes into the cigar I noticed the introduction of a modest amount of white pepper flavor into the profile. 19 minutes after that, the leather and coffee notes began pushing forward into the profile while the white pepper began fading out. What I found interesting with this cigar was that as the rest of the smoking time pushed on, the strength and the flavors stayed more or less the same. In fact, the last five or so minutes of the cigar, it seemed like the the entirety of the cigar mellowed out. Total smoking time on the Don Pepin Garcia TAA 2019 was 1:29.

Minus a relight, I encountered no problems with the cigar chosen for review. It was nice to enjoy something from My Father Cigars once again and will look forward to the next time to smoking more of them.

By-The-Numbers
Pre-light: 2/2
Construction: 2/2
Flavor: 4/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 9/10

To recap the Don Pepin Garcia TAA 2019:

  • I loved the combination of strength and flavor profile from this cigar, although I felt that I got a lot more pepper notes from the first cigar I smoked from the two purchased.
  • Despite the cigar punching a little bit stronger, it’s not enough to scare folks away. Only the most ardent of mild cigar smokers would flinch at this cigar, everyone else can smoke away.
  • Right at $10.00 per cigar. This feels like a solid price for this and worth the money.
  • I would definitely buy these again should I see them in my local or preferred online shops.

Thank you so much for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
