Today I’m back with the second cigar in my series of Havana Nights reviews: the Habano wrapper. To review, the Havana Nights series use long-leaf Nicaraguan tobaccos from Condega, Jalapa, and Somoto, along with a Nicaraguan Habano binder. This version employs an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper leaf. The wrapper was a medium brown with a somewhat reddish hue in some lights and a very oily touch to it. It smelled of natural tobacco and leather, while the foot of the cigar had notes of earth and cocoa powder.
The cold draw was just about perfect and had flavors of earth and leather with a faint sweetness and just a touch of pepper spice. Once lit, the Havana Nights Habano had earth, cedar, and a slightly sweet almost-baked goods note that was really nice. There was a mild pepper note that built up a bit as I smoked along, while the retrohale was nutty.
While I wasn’t a huge fan of the Connecticut Shade version of this blend, I do really enjoy the Habano, especially in the Corona Gorda size that I bought. It’s a really great 40-50 minute smoke that I enjoy again and again.
