Getting to the end of my look at the Rojas Street Tacos series, I present: Carnitas! This one uses Nicaraguan filler and binder covered with an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper leaf. It’s worth noting that before firing up this cigar, I discovered a fairly large crack in that wrapper leaf about halfway through the stick. I determined that I didn’t think it would change my enjoyment of the cigar overall, so I decided to soldier through.
That wrapper was a really beautiful golden shade with an oilier-than-normal feel to it. It smelled of fresh hay and thanks to it folding over the foot, that smelled mostly of hay, too, although with a touch of sweet earth and cedar in the mix. The prelight draw was very good and tasted of natural tobacco, hay, and just a little pepper spice.
When I lit up the Rojas Street Tacos Carnitas, I initially got a medium-bodied cedar and earth mix, overlayed with a creamy softness, and punctuated by a good amount of black pepper. I got through the cigar with the crack giving me very little trouble, but the cigar delivering a very nice mild-to-medium body and flavor throughout. This could be the first Connecticut Shade I’ve had from Noel Rojas and I loved it. I can see buying more of these.
