Cigar Review: S&S 2024 #2

For the second of the 2024 Saints & Sinners Club release, we have a shape that I’m generally not too fond of…which is pretty much anything with a torpedo tip. This particular one is an actual torpedo, not a belicoso which I think will come up later in this series. The torpedo shape starts narrowing just north of the band and comes to a rather pointy tip while tapering in along the entire inch-plus rest of the stick.

Judging from the texture, aroma, and color of this wrapper leaf, I believe it to be a Habano, although where it was grown is a bit of a mystery. Could be an Ecuadorian Habano because it does resemble the wrappers seen on the Tat Brown Label series…could be a curveball/throwback and be a Nicaraguan Habano, I guess. The aroma from it was earthy and leathery, with a touch of cedar. From the foot of the cigar, I got a rich chocolate note, mixed with a little coffee and earth.

I cut a little more than a quarter inch from the tip and got a decent draw…although I still thought I might need to clip more off in a few minutes if it wasn’t as decent as I first thought. Initial puffs brought about tons of cedar and earth in the mix, along with lesser notes of baker’s cocoa and a slight dark fruit sweetness.

I enjoyed this cigar with some Old Bardstown Bottled-In-Bond, a Willett product that I picked up on a trip to Kentucky…because the BIB version is ONLY available there. It had a fairly light note to it that didn’t quite match up with the cigar, but still proved to be a pretty good pairing.
