I had heard of Jas Sum Kral Cigars years ago, but judging from their more gimmicky cigars that included CBD or THC in the blend, I wondered if they were anything more attempts to cash in on trends. Combine that with the fact that I never saw them for sale in brick and mortar stores and that led to me never trying them. I’ve recently been looking for more “bargain smokes” and that led me to giving this brand another look on Cigar Page…the only retail outlet that JSK sells through these days. A few samplers later, I’m a believer.
I’ll start this little series of reviews with the Tyrannical Buc Maduro. There is no solid information online about the makeup of the cigar, but the Connecticut version indicates fillers from Pennsylvania and Nicaragua, along with a Nicaraguan binder. I couldn’t say what the Maduro wrapper on this cigar is, but it is a dark chocolate brown with a rich earthy aroma with a hint of anise. The foot was sweet smelling, almost that mocha mix of coffee and chocolate.
The cold draw was perfectly easy, with flavors of coffee bean, hay, and a little pepper spice. Fired up the smoke flowed effortlessly and flavors of cocoa powder, espresso bean, and red pepper flake played around on my palate. I found this blend medium-to-full in body and never overpowering in strength. This truly has quickly become one of my favorite cigars, and not just because they cost about $3.75 apiece…but the price tag really doesn’t hurt!
Further notes… This is based on the Dobles size, a 6.5″ x 50 ring gauge, but I have tried a couple other sizes as well. The Generosos is a 5.5 x 40 Petite Corona that I found delightful. The Golem Buc is a 5.5″ x 60 ring gauge Gordo that I found rather dull. Your mileage, of course, may vary.
