I’m always on the lookout for new cigars to smoke, whether it is market leaders that I have missed out on over the years or a new offering to the public. We can say many things about social media (good and bad) but one positive to it is bringing cigar manufacturers and cigar smokers together. From some random retweets several weeks back, I discovered Crux Cigar Company, a new player to the market. Co-owners Jeff Haugen and Joel Rogers have over twenty years of retail experience in selling cigars and thought they could bring something new to all of us consumers. I reached out to Crux to see about reviewing their cigars and information on where I could purchase them and they were generous enough to send along samples to try. What struck me with their cigars is the unique vitolas (sizes) of their cigars. The first cigar that I am reviewing of theirs, the Ninfamaniac, is thinner and longer than you see in the market normally.

I found zero construction issues nor imperfections with the cigar itself. Unfortunately, I could not determine any pre-light flavor notes on the cigar. Cutting both ends of the cigar and giving it a light, I found mellow flavors of dull pepper and sugarcane. While Crux would classify the cigar as closer to full bodied in flavors, my opinion is that the Ninfamaniac is more along the lines of medium bodied for my palette. The flavor profile stayed consistent with the dull pepper and sugarcane for the majority of the cigar’s smoking time of 0:52. I did find that the cigar increased in strength just after the halfway point of the cigar.

I encountered zero problems with the cigar in terms of burn and draw. The burn stayed even throughout and the draw of the cigar was perfectly balanced. About the only thing that the cigar made me wish for was a little more depth of flavors.

By-The-Numbers
Prelight: 1.5/2
Construction: 2/2
Flavor: 4/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 8.5/10

To recap the Crux Ninfamaniac:

  • A uniquely sized and shaped cigar that in my opinion is perfect first cigar of the day with your coffee.
  • While I wanted a little more depth of flavors with the Ninafamaniac, it would lend itself to all ranges of cigar smokers and their palettes.
  • The MSRP of $5.99 per stick I feel is right where the cigar’s price should be.
  • I will be looking into a number of these in the future as this is a cigar that both my wife and I can enjoy.

As always, thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you. The next review I will be looking at a couple more offerings from Crux Cigars. I would like to thank them once again for providing the cigars.

Sounds like an interesting cigar and I can assume that Sugar Cane taste will pair nice with a cup of coffee in the AM. Enjoy.
