Did I save the best for last? Possibly! I’m looking once again the Havana Nights series by Rojas Cigars and today I have the Maduro version. Once again, these are Nicaraguan filler and binder, while this wrapper is an Ecuadorian Habano Maduro. If you haven’t already seen my reviews of the Connecticut and Habano versions, I encourage you to check those out.
This Havana Nights Maduro had a dark chocolate brown wrapper that was smooth and oily to the touch and gave up aromas of earth, anise, and leather. The cold draw was easy and tasted of cocoa nibs and espresso beans. I fired it up and got tons of dark earthiness, espresso beans, and toasted wood. The retrohale featured more woodiness and also a nice amount of black pepper. The smoke was thick, oily, and heavy…making it really good for blowing smoke rings!
I felt like it sat at the bottom of the full-bodied range and was about medium in strength. After trying them all, I have enjoyed the entire Havana Nights line enough that I already reordered all 3 versions…but I have to admit to liking the Maduro the best. It has a nice balance and bold flavor to go along with the full body. Put it on your list…give this a try!
