Croatian Mafia Cigars Capo

Cigar Review: Croatian Mafia Cigars Capo

Several months ago, I became acquainted with Tobb Pribanic, the principal player in the Croatian Mafia Cigars company. Todd was looking for someone to manage his website and I was recommended by a mutual acquaintance. Long story short, at this time I am managing the website and part of my compensation is with cigars…and that’s not a bad thing because they are very good! I thought I’d share a few of them with you.

Currently, the CMC brand has 6 different offerings, each in a different blend, each with a different size. They are produced at the Tabacalera Pichardo in Nicaragua. Today’s review is of the Croatian Mafia Cigars Capo, a box-pressed toro, measuring 6.5” x 52 ring gauge. It uses Nicaraguan fillers, a Mexican San Andres binder, and a Habano Maduro (no country stated) wrapper leaf.

For a Maduro wrapper leaf, the Habano leaf on the Croatian Mafia Cigars Capo was pretty light in color. It was smooth and slightly oily to the touch, while having an almost milk chocolate brown hue. The aroma from it was earthy and cocoa powder; from the foot of the cigar I got earth, cedar, and hay notes. The cold draw was almost neutral…a bit of sweet grassiness, a slight touch of earth, and that was about it.

After lighting up, the CMC Capo had notes of dark chocolate, earth, black pepper, and cedar. The retrohale was full of cedar and red pepper spice. I continued to find this to be a very good mix of bittersweet and savory notes that it is complex and enjoyable from beginning to end. The only thing I wish for is that they made each blend in more than one size…I’d love to get a Corona Gorda or Robusto of this blend so it didn’t take an hour and a half to enjoy one.
