The mildest cigar in the Croatian Mafia Cigars portfolio is the Boss, a silky-smooth looking Connecticut Shade-wrapped cigar, made alongside the rest of the company’s blends in Nicaragua. It does feature Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers and a Habano binder (country of origin not stated, but I think it’s Nicaraguan). The golden wrapper leaf had a clean, sweet hay note to it and after taking off the foot ribbon, I noted that it had a shaggy foot, with the filler bunch exposed just a little bit. The foot had aromas of natural tobacco, cedar, bread, and earth. The cold draw had hay and citrus notes.
Firing up the CMC Boss, those hay and citrus flavors from the cold draw made an immediate impact. Both gave up a slight sweetness that was very welcome. There were also touches of earth and cedar, along with the barest white pepper heat.
As I smoked my way through it, the CMC Boss was really an excellent mild-plus bodied cigar with a good amount of complexity. The creamy smoke consistently gave up flavors of toasty bread, cedar, sweet hay, and citrus. The only thing I wish is that the blend came in other sizes…for the time I had to smoke it, I wish I had a Robusto instead of a Toro.
