Luciano the Dreamer

Cigar Review: Luciano the Dreamer

Originally named Ace Prime Cigars, the company that produces Luciano the Dreamer is Luciano Cigars…named after the brand’s co-founder Luciano Meirreles. They are made at the Pichardo factory in Nicaragua, the same place that produces high quality cigars for brands like Crowned Heads and Croatian Mafia Cigars. This namesake cigar features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper leaf over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaraguan and Peru. It also is said to include rare Pelo de Oro tobacco, a tobacco that is very potent and flavorful, but notoriously hard to grow in high quantities.

The wrapper leaf of the Luciano the Dreamer is a brownish-gold hue with a good amount of oils under my fingertips and a silky feel to it. The aroma I got from it was cedar with a little earth and a twang of minerality that I’ve come to associate with Sumatra leaf. The foot had a stronger earthiness, with additional sweet chocolate and coffee notes to it. The cold draw was very easy and mixed woody and earthy flavors with a cooling citrusy sensation that I’ve associated with Peruvian leaf in the past.

Lighting up Luciano the Dreamer, I initially got a mix of cedar, light earth, medium-roast coffee, and a distinctly citrus note. The retrohale was nutty and woody with a good amount of black pepper spice, while the finish had a lingering red pepper that was very nice. If you’ve read my reviews for a while you probably know I’m not a big Ecuadorian Sumatra fan, but every now and then one really hits me right…this one was doing so from the start. I picked up a little of that coppery mineral note I usually get, but it was well-balanced with the other flavors.

As I continued onward, the cigar picked up more light, citrusy sweetness to go along with the earthy, woody and nutty notes, turning into a real delight. I noted it to be just a touch over medium in body, so it should be easy for just about any cigar smoker to enjoy. I put this one on my “definitely recommend” list.
