Rojas Street Tacos Barbacoa

Rojas Street Tacos – Barbacoa

It’s been a while since I caught up with what Noel Rojas is up to in the cigar world. I remember him as this young guy that came to the Chattanooga Tweet-Up at the invitation of a friend…he brought some cigars to the event…something called Guayacan that went on to be the hit of our little event. He got attention and before you knew it, he had his own factory in Nicaragua. It was a privilege to see the beginning of a brand like that. Street Tacos is one of the most popular lines from Rojas Cigars these days, several blends named after different ways to serve street tacos.

Street Tacos Barbacoa is wrapped in an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf, while the filler and binder are Nicaraguan. The color of the wrapper was a medium-dark brown and it had a nice oily feel under my fingertips. The aroma from it was of earth, cocoa powder, and a little sharp minerality. The foot had more earthy, along with some floral notes.

I fired up the Street Tacos Barbacoa and got tons of pepper spice right from the get-go, along with a subtle sweetness and florality (I might have just made that word up). As I continued to get into the cigar, there was a lot of earthiness, but those light sweet and floral notes wouldn’t go away, supplying a really nice complexity. There were some mineral notes in the mix as I went along, but the overall I really enjoyed this cigar. Can’t wait to get to the other Street Taco blends!
